Papanash & Palinka

Finally Mao has reincarnated! He would be thrilled to know that it was in Bucharest and in the form of two very small, abandoned street kittens. These kittens came into our house via the French community where one of the members found them in a bag (which was thrown into her garden). They are still very young (6 weeks) but seem to be healthy and are discovering every day new things to do.

We named them Papanash & Palinka. Papanash is a Romanian dessert, kind of a doughnut/donut, and Palinka is a Romanian plum spirit. This will remind us of their origin when we move to another place in the future.

Mao s'est enfin réincarné! Il serait ravi d'apprendre que cela s'est passé à Bucarest sous la forme de deux petites chattes abondonnées. Ses chatons ont été trouvé par un membre de la communauté française à Bucarest et nous avons été ravi de les accueillir chez nous. Elles n'ont pour le moment que 6 semaines et doivent encore etre nourris au biberons.

Nous les avons nommées Papanash & Palinka. Papanash est un dessert roumain, sorte de donut à la crème, et Palinka est un alcool de prune roumain. Deux spécialités roumaines qui nous rappelerons leur origine lors de nos prochaines aventures.

Switzerland

Last week we were in Switzerland to meet our old friends Pieter & Val. Andries met Piet & Val in Ireland nearly 8 years ago via a common friend in Holland and since then we met occasionally somewhere in the world. It was great fun to see them again for a full week and we stayed in the chalet of the Family Jonckheer. In Gryon-Barboleuse and Villars we skied, crashed (first time skiing for Andries) and had lots of cheese fondue. Also great to see their 2 kids, Anna and Jasper, who did not listen a little bit to their parents. Click on the Switzerland link to see some pictures.

Enfin! Première longues vacances depuis notre arrivée en Roumanie, destination: la Suisse! Très exotique après l'Asie. Nous y avons retrouvé nos vieux amis Valerie et Pieter qu'Andries connait depuis l'Irlande. Nous avons l'habitude de nous retrouver occasionnellement dans diverses parties du monde et après nos séjours respectifs en Asie (Inde pour Val et Piet et Chine pour nous), nous redécouvrons l'Europe. Nous sommes restés dans le chalet de la famille des Jonckheer dans le charmand petit village de Gryon. Initiation au ski pour Andries, reprise pour Charlotte après 15 annés et nombreuses dégustations de fondues, raclettes et vins locaux au programme.
